Privacy Policy

OtterSpeech is a text-to-speech product built and operated by OliveOtter, LLC (“we”, “us”), available as a web app and a Chrome browser extension. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we handle it. We designed OtterSpeech to collect as little as possible and to keep the page content you listen to on your device wherever we can.

What the extension does with page content

When you press play, the extension reads the text of the page you are on so it can highlight and speak it. With the free browser voice, this text is processed entirely on your device and is never sent to us. With a Pro voice, the specific text you choose to have read aloud is sent to our text-to-speech provider to generate audio, and is not stored afterward. We do not read, collect, or transmit page content unless you actively start playback.

Permissions

The extension requests access to the sites you visit so it can add the reading toolbar and read a page aloud when you ask it to. This access is used only to provide the reading feature on the page you are actively using. We do not use it to track your browsing history or build a profile of the sites you visit.

Information we collect

• Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address (and an optional display name) through our authentication provider so you can sign in and access Pro features.
• Subscription & payment. If you subscribe, our payment processor handles your card details. We never receive or store full card numbers; we keep only your subscription status.
• Usage analytics. We collect anonymous, aggregated product-usage events (for example, that playback was started or a setting was changed) to understand how the product is used and to fix problems. These events do not include the content of the pages you read.
• Bug & feedback reports. When you choose to send a report, it includes what you type. Only if you explicitly opt in does a report also include the page URL, a screenshot, or the page’s content to help us reproduce an issue. These attachments are never included unless you check the box.

How we use your information

We use the information above to provide and operate OtterSpeech, authenticate you, deliver Pro voices, process subscriptions, respond to support requests, and improve the product. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Third-party services

We rely on a small set of providers to run OtterSpeech: a backend and authentication provider (Supabase), a text-to-speech provider (Google Cloud) for Pro voices, a payment processor (Stripe) for subscriptions, and a product-analytics provider (PostHog). Each processes data only as needed to provide its part of the service.

Data retention & your choices

We keep account and subscription data for as long as your account is active. You can sign out at any time, and you can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the address below. You can also use the free browser voice without an account, in which case we hold no account data for you.

Children

OtterSpeech is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we do, we will revise the “last updated” date above.
